Bag a bargain to make your journey home almost as enjoyable as your visit to Edinburgh! The National Trust for Scotland runs an autumn book sale from its Gladstones Land property, on the Royal Mile.
Used and nearly new books are available for credit-crunching value. All the books are priced at either 50p or £1. All the takings will go towards conservation work at Gladstones Land. Brodick Castle, Ben Lawyers and The Georgian House at 7 Charlotte Square are just a few of the Trust’s 129 properties.
Know Before You Go...
Gladstones Land: a 17th-century Edinburgh townhouse, owned by Thomas Gladstone. Tenement building, showing how his tenants lived 300 years ago. It’s interesting to compare this Old Town property with Charlotte Square’s The Georgian House, an example of New Town living. From the 17th century, the area north of the Royal Mile was developed so people could live there, when the Royal Mile and other Old Town areas became too overcrowded.
National Trust for Scotland: a conservation charity, with its main headquarters based on Charlotte Square. The Trust has nearly 300,000 members and is Scotland’s largest conservation charity.
